What to visit?
What to visit and see in Provence?
You want to visit and travel all across Provence? You make a good choice by coming to Salon-de-Provence!
Not only Salon-de-Provence is a typical town where life is pleasant, it is also in the center of Provence, and therefore every major and interesting destination is easily reachable.
Here is what we advise you to visit...
At Salon
- The historic center of Salon-de-Provence (where the two apartments are located), is nice to walk into, and features several interesting museums, such as the house of Nostradamus and the Empéri castle. Do not hesitate to also stop at a restaurant or ice cream store...
- A large park is at a 15-minute walk away from the center: great to do some sport. An adventure park in the trees is there: fun guaranteed!
- The Tallagard hills, at the borders of the town, feature typical Mediterranean forests, enjoyable for hiking and walking.
All around
- Les Baux de Provence, Saint Rémy de Provence and Eygalières, three iconic and picturesque Provencal villages.
- Miramas-le-Vieux : a hilltop village with two excellent ice cream restaurants nestling at the top. You will have to climb a few steps, but the reward (and the view) is worth it!
- Arles and the Camargue : a large marshy area bordered by the Rhône, where many wild animals (pink flamingos, horses...) can be seen.
- Aix-en-Provence, old capital of Provence, with a large historic centre.
- Martigues : called by some "the Venice of Provence" and it is understandable why: the centre of this fishing village, where wooden boats stand alongside pavements, has lost none of its charm.
- Calanques de Marseille : great cliffs ending in the sea, with fantastic views and colours. Great walks that can end on a beach between two cliffs.
- Avignon, and its famous Palais des Papes.
- The Luberon and its lovely villages: l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes, Roussillon (with its ochre-coloured houses)... Do not also hesitate to go to the « Colorado Provençal » : smaller than the Grand Canyon in the United States, but just as exotic!
